One of the best ways to experience Santa Barbara is on two wheels. With sunshine nearly year-round, a scenic waterfront, and miles of bike-friendly paths, cycling offers a different perspective on the city. Guests of Hotel Santa Barbara can borrow complimentary bicycles and set out directly from our front door, no car required.

If you're looking for a leisurely waterfront ride or a route that combines local history, culture, and coastal views, these are five of our favorite ways to explore Santa Barbara by bike.

1. The Waterfront Ride

DISTANCE Approximately 4 miles round-trip

DIFFICULTY Easy

If it's your first time in Santa Barbara, start here. From Hotel Santa Barbara, head toward Cabrillo Boulevard and connect with the beachfront bike path. The route follows the coastline past West Beach, Stearns Wharf, and East Beach, with uninterrupted ocean views for much of the ride. Along the way, you'll pass palm-lined parks, sandy beaches, and some of the city's most iconic scenery. There are plenty of opportunities to stop for photos, enjoy the ocean breeze, or simply take in the view.

2. The Harbor Loop

DISTANCE Approximately 3 miles

DIFFICULTY Easy

For a shorter ride packed with coastal character, the Harbor Loop is a local favorite. Cycle toward the waterfront and make your way around Santa Barbara Harbor, where fishing boats, sailboats, and waterfront restaurants create a distinctly maritime atmosphere. The route offers beautiful views of the Channel Islands on clear days and plenty of opportunities to pause and watch harbor life unfold. This ride is especially enjoyable in the morning when the harbor is waking up for the day.
