Hotel Santa Barbara Receives 2025 AIA Merit Award for Conservation and Renovation

SANTA BARBARA, CA (March 12, 2026)

Hotel Santa Barbara is honored to announce it has received a 2025 AIA Merit Award for Conservation and Renovation, recognizing the comprehensive restoration of its historic 100-year-old property.  

Presented by the American Institute of Architects, the award celebrates excellence in preserving architecturally significant buildings while adapting them for contemporary use. The recognition serves as a meaningful acknowledgement of the team’s accomplishment in thoughtfully renovating a landmark property with deep roots in the community. 

The project was driven by a commitment to preserve and enhance the building’s original design and structural character while ensuring it meets modern hospitality standards. Historic architectural elements were carefully maintained, honoring the integrity of the structure and its longstanding presence.

At the same time, the renovation introduced 21st-century technology and included complete upgrades to all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems. Interior spaces were repositioned to improve flow, functionality, and the overall guest experience, creating a refreshed environment that respects the hotel’s heritage.

Receiving the 2025 AIA Merit Award marks a significant milestone for Hotel Santa Barbara and reinforces its dedication to conservation, innovation, and long-term stewardship as it enters its next chapter.
